People’s Theatre Association (PTA), is organising an eight-day festival titled ‘5th National Youth Theatre Festival 2016’ with the help of Cultural Ministry and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), which will take place at BSA.
Presided over by PTA founder and BSA Director General Liaqaut Ali Lucky, president of German Amateur Theatre Federation, Norbert Radarmakher, will inaugurate the festival today as chief guest, while Cultural Affairs Secretary Begum Akhtari Momtaz, President of ITI worldwide Ramendu Majumdar and advisor of PTA SM Mohsin will be present as special guests.
A total of 7 universities and 22 groups from all over the country will take part in the eight-day festival. The festival will feature as many as 32 stage plays. The show of staging play will begin every day from 6:30pm. Each day four dramas will be staged at Experimental Theatre Hall and National Music and Dance Auditorium of BSA simultaneously. Alongside the drama, there will be workshop, puppet show, clown show, magic program and theatre games in the festival.
On the opening day, today, Natya Teertha will bring their play ‘Kangkal’ and Victoria Collage Theatre, Comilla will stage ‘Chan Motir Pala’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall, while District Shilpakala Academy, Brahmanbaria will stage ‘Padatika’ and Natyacharcha will stage ‘Informer’ at Music and Dance Auditorium.
Tomorrow, Ranpur Natya Kendra will stage ‘Mohua Preme’ and Dhaka Rangapeeth will stage ‘Kheya Parer Majhi’ at the Music and Dance Department, while Natyabhumi, Tongi will stage ‘Monche Chitre’ and Chintak Theater of Gobindagonj, Gaibandha will bring their production ‘Behula’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA.
The plays for April 25 are—Centre for Bangladesh Theatre, Dhaka’s ‘Khoyab’, Theatre Idea, Bogra’s ‘De Chhut’, ‘Shakspeare Saptak’ by Department of Theatre and Performance Studies of Dhaka University and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s ‘Mulluk’.
The other notable plays include— District Shilpakala Academy Narsingdi’s ‘Chup Kotha’, Kishan Theatre of Sher-e Bangla Agricultural University’s ‘Lal Shabujer Deshe’, Bibekananda Theatre’s ‘Manob Premi Bibekananda’, ‘Kobi’ by Drama and Dramatics Department of Jahangirnagar University, Genesis Theatre Dhaka’s ‘Shaheed Minar Theke’, Mohakal Natya Smapraday’s ‘Promithius’ and others.
Besides these, Notre Dame College Theatre, Bangla Collage Jubo Theatre Dhaka, Pidim Theatre, Kishor Theatre Feni, Loko Natyadol Dhaka, among others bring their production on stage during the eight-day festival.
