Artist Moon Rahman’s solo show continues at Kalakendra

‘Celebrated Violence -4: Fuzzy Fear’ – a solo art exhibition by artist Moon Rahman started on May 28 at Kalakendra in the capital’s Mohamaadpur in the city and shall continue until June 20. The exhibition is curated by Wakilur Rahman and Kehkasha Sabah. ‘Celebrated violence’ is a series exhibition showing some Bangladeshi artist’s works and their visual positions concerning this particular issue. In ‘Celebrated Violence -4’, the works of artist Moon Rahman is titled ‘Fuzzy Fear’.
According to the curator, “Violence we experience on daily basis embeds paranoia inside us. This paranoia stopped us from helping others, even to react. This collective inactivity is making the social structure insecure and also demising our feelings towards the victims. Today we can see the acceptance of violence everywhere of our social milieu. Communication, media, social community, entertainment and information of global to domestic life, all are considering violence silently through choice of language, sounds, images, gestures, even gossip and so on. As if we have conditioned such a restrictive reality that is turning us into active and passive observers. Visual artist are not excluded from this milieu. Some artists, who are constantly living and observing these situations, have work and make a position on this. ‘Celebrated violence’ is a series exhibition showing some Bangladeshi artist’s works and their visual positions concerning this issue.”
Born in Dawlatpur, Feni at 1975, Moon Rahman married in 1990, completed her HSC from there and moved to Dhaka with her artist husband around 2000. Being a mother of two children, she was a housewife, but always had a hidden talent of painting, even though she did not receive any institutionalized art education . That passion and talent finally was exposed as time passed. Her bold compositions, drawings using fresh colour, technical and formal aspects received attention. Some of her works were chosen for curatorial exhibition ‘Celebrated Violence 1’.
The exhibition is open to all everyday from 5 pm to 9 pm until June 20. l
