The education ministry has found proof of tampering of admission test papers for Class II and Class III at three branches of Ideal School and College in the capital.
The ministry yesterday issued a reminder letter, signed by its deputy secretary Anwarul Haque, to the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), asking why the ministry did not get any written explanation from the principal of the institutions about the allegation, though given seven days' time.
The letter said the investigating officer found proof of tampering at Matijheel, Banasree and Mugda branches of Ideal School and College in 2018.
The ministry had requested the DSHE to get an explanation from the principal within seven days, but it is yet to get it, the letter said.
The ministry requested the DSHE to make a recommendation after getting the explanation.
It is learnt that the probe body, led by senior assistant commissioner and executive magistrate Taslima Mostari, found that 69 answer scripts of the admission tests for Class II and Class III had been tampered with. The probe body analysed the answer scripts of 122 successful candidates.
Taslima Mostari then submitted a report to the deputy commissioner (DC) of Dhaka, Abu Saleh Mohammad Ferdous Khan, on July 31 for taking the next course of action.
On August 8, the DC submitted the report to the DSHE. The DSHE ordered the Dhaka district administration on April 19 to carry out an investigation following the allegation of a guardian, Shamoly Shimu.
She alleged that the principal of the Ideal School and College, Shahan Ara Begum, in connivance with the assistant head teacher, Salam Khan, Atiquer Rahman, and two staff members, Kabir Hossain and Atiquer Rahman, had tampered with 100 answers scripts for admitting some unqualified candidates illegally in exchange for Tk. 3 crore.
The Dhaka district administration also submitted the probe report to the education ministry, saying they had found proof that 69 answer scripts of the admission tests had been tampered with.
Finally, the ministry, on September 18, issued a letter seeking an explanation from the institution authorities, but did not get any response. So, the ministry issued a reminder letter yesterday. Brushing aside the allegation, Shahan Ara Begum told The Independent yesterday: “I don’t want to make any comments now. I will answer when I get the letter.”
