Nasima Khan Monty: A multi-dimensional personality

Nasima Khan Monty: A multi-dimensional personality

When we look through the lenses of traditional society that has imposed some restrictions on our perceptions we judge people by their skin color, ethnicity, religion or many times simply by their gender. In those accounts our values becomes mere recognition of our inherent incapability to acknowledge peoples achievement by their creed or ethnic identity and gender. However knowledge and our experience has the power to overcome those odds and appreciate or reward people on what they have been able to achieve with their own capability and caliber with seemingly dedicated efforts behind them.

This criteria is crucial even in present Bangladeshi context where the stereotypical landscapes often ponders with the power of free thinking and speech.

Regardless of those dangers we now have many thinkers and do’ers who are in contrast not only bright and thriving their own right but they are also leading the way of liberalism in this new consumer driven economic reality of a globalized Bangladeshi society.

In this light we can name quite a few such novel entrepreneurs who are not only woman but also fighting to uphold their free views of liberal nationalist approach and practices in Bangladeshi society.

Nasima khan Monty is the Editor-in-Charge in one of the top fifteen newspapers in Bangladesh ‘The Daily Amader Orthoneeti’ admirably befits all these undertakings.

In one of her most recent accomplishments is from Vedanta Sangskriti Manch Bangladesh, a non-political non-profit organization. In their honorary certificate to state her contribution to society they stated “Nasima khan Monty is one of the distinguished editors in Bangladesh and currently leading three news organizations, Daily Our time, Daily Amader Orthoneeti and AmaderShomoy.com. She is also courageous and very creative along with other the male and female editors in Bangladesh. She was the victim of a bomb attack by extremists and militant terrorists because of her newspaper’s fearless editorial policy and journalistic endeavors that propagated a culture of religious harmony and also safeguard minority rights.”

Though this certification isn’t her only recognition of the journalistic values she upholds in a so much fragile and sensitive society. She has been also the recipient of prestigious ‘UNESCO Bangladesh Journalism Award 2012’ and in the same year ‘Canadian Awards for Excellence in Bangladeshi Journalism’ and various other recognitions throughout her versatile and diverse successful career.

She has worked in prominent news media of Bangladesh, both print and electronic and has associated her work perimeter in developing a knowledge based society. Bangladesh Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) recognized her immense potentials back in 2003 and she worked with their communication division.

No one can undermine the fact that this think tank is one of the most crucial advocacy group in Bangladesh that always stood for what is beneficial for the people of this republic despite of their demographic standards.

This very standard of working for all the society is what makes Nasima Khan a standout among the crowds of other rising number of journalists in Bangladesh. She has reasonably used not only her profession but also her working institutions to fulfill her goal of advocating for the oppressed and marginalized masses.

If civic sense tells us to judge people on their credibility and reliability accompanied by their work ethics then we can consider her as a role model for many other young and brilliant male and female journalism practitioners in Bangladesh. At end of the day when we take down our lenses of typical stereotyping and look on merit of those who accomplished such feats with morality we simply come to appreciate that Nasima Khan Monty and people like her are the force of liberal views to be reckoned with.
