The more you spit, the more you take risk

Spitting or coughing is one of the major causes of airborne diseases in Dhaka city. Spitting in public is considered one of the most annoying things in the world. At the same time this practice is a serious risk to health. While walking on the sidewalk, standing on the side of the road talking or sitting lazily, many people spit, cough and drink spit on the sidewalk or in front of the market. The scene is normal for the residents of any big city in Bangladesh. It is so normal that many people avoid the eyes! However, if you ever have a sudden eye contact or if you are a victim of an unpleasant situation, then it is like grinning.
If spitting is called a bad habit, there are many, regardless of their financial or social status. But it's not just about being dirty or looking dirty. The biggest danger of spitting out there is disease-pest infection. Spitting and coughing is a major cause of airborne diseases in Bangladesh. Tuberculosis is one of them. "People who have no disease still have some germs in their mouths when they spit. Especially those who are infected with the virus get the virus out of their saliva and mucus. Since it is in a wet state, the virus is much more alive." The virus can be spread from saliva and phlegm through direct contact or through the air.
The problem of spitting everywhere is not unique to Bangladesh or Dhaka city alone. Various studies have also shown that spitting in public is one of the most annoying issues in urban areas of Asia. In some parts of Singapore, Malaysia and even India, there are laws prohibiting spitting and there are provisions for fines. There is no such law in Bangladesh and there is no such initiative to create awareness. Spitting in the midst of many problems in Dhaka may seem like a small thing. But at the same time it is a problem that can be solved almost for free. Just need a little awareness.
