University students must complete vaccine registration by Sept 27: Dipu Moni

UNB, Dhaka
University students must complete vaccine registration by Sept 27: Dipu Moni

All the university students must complete vaccine registration by September 27 so that syndicate and academic councils can decide to reopen their universities, said Education Minister Dipu Moni on Tuesday.

The minister said this after a virtual meeting on reopening universities with Vice-Chancellors, representatives of University Grants Commission (UGC), secretary for Secondary and Higher Education division, president of the national technical committee on Covid-19 and officials concerned.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury also attended the meeting.

According to a decision of the meeting, the teachers, students and officials of all the universities of the country will have to register for vaccination against Covid-19 by September 27.

The students who do not have national ID cards will register first as a student of their institution from the UGC weblink which will enable them to register for vaccination through Surokkha app.

The UGC will share the link on websites of all the universities and the Education Ministry on Thursday.

Any under-18 university student can also register as a university student from the link using the birth certificate and then register for receiving the vaccine shot.

After their registration, the students will be able to receive vaccine shots from the medical centres of their respective universities.

To accelerate the vaccination campaign for university students, the Health Directorate will provide all the necessary and technical assistance.

Meanwhile, the students of schools and colleges in Bangladesh returned to their classrooms on September 12 with much enthusiasm after a long closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

After nearly 18 months, primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in Bangladesh reopened with a slew of Covid-safety protocols in place.
