In a bid to promote Bangladesh's trade, a 14-member high-level delegation led by Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment affairs adviser to the prime minister, is now in Uzbekistan.

The high-profile team will also attend the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB Group) annual conference scheduled for 3 - 4 September. Some 57 member countries will participate in the event.

The IsDB, a multilateral development financial institution with 57 member countries, is holding its annual meeting for 2021 with the theme – “Respond, Restore, Restart: Post-Covid Resilience and Prosperity for all.”

On the sidelines of the IsDB Group annual meeting, Bangladesh team will explore business opportunities in Uzbekistan.

As Bangladesh and Uzbekistan have many things in common in terms of culture, Dhaka is looking for enhancing trade and business, said Salman F Rahman, adding, “We expect more cooperation in pharmaceuticals … not just export opportunities, we also see chances of joint ventures.”

Salman F Rahman also said Bangladesh holds opportunities to do business with Uzbekistan in the areas of information and communication technology, home appliances, construction and textile sectors.

State Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak said as Bangladesh has improved its digital transformation tremendously over the years, Dhaka can enhance its trade ties with Tashkent in the areas of software and hardware.

The visiting Bangladesh team is expecting to explore more economic and developmental opportunities for the country by highlighting the bright business opportunities of the country.

The possibility of investment in Bangladesh will also be highlighted at the IsDB conference. Bangladesh delegation will present the progress and prospects of the financial sector, including banking and insurance to attract investment in the country.

Bangladesh exports more goods to Uzbekistan than imports. The export items include jute and jute products, pharmaceutical and readymade garments. In the last financial year, Bangladesh earned $24 million from this market by exporting products.
