Starting a firm is easier in Bangladesh: Salman F Rahman

Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment adviser to the prime minister, on Saturday said it is easier for investors to start a company in Bangladesh than in other neighbouring countries, adding the Bangladesh government offers a host of facilities to investors.

Even anyone can open a company online from anywhere in the world, said Salman F Rahman, also a member of parliament, while replying to a question at the third session of Bangladesh road show on the South Asian country’s investment opportunities at InterContinental hotel here.

Salman F Rahman, a businessman turned politician, also said investors are getting all infrastructure facilities in special economic zones designed for local and foreign investors.

He said Bangladesh guarantees the highest return on investment, adding that the factory efficiency and people’s purchasing power are increasing in the South Asian country with 170 million population.

While assuring the expatriate Bangladeshis of looking into their demand to offer special facilities at Bangladeshi airports, Salman F Rahman urged the expatriates to be brand ambassadors of Bangladesh by highlighting the nation’s development.

Speaking at the function, Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, said Bangladesh wants to become a development partner of the US, not just the recipient of assistance.

Islam also said the Bangladesh government is working to develop the bond market.

Taking part in the programme, Managing Director and CEO of Dhaka WASA Taqsem A Khan sought investment in the areas of water and sanitation from the expatriate Bangladeshis. No description available.

The stock market regulator - Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) - is organising the 10-day Bangladesh road show that began on July 26.

The purpose of this roadshow is to showcase the strength and opportunities of business and investment in Bangladesh for investors abroad.

Earlier, the first and second sessions of the investment roadshow were held in New York and Washington, DC. The fourth and last session will be in San Francisco.

The US-Bangladesh tech and investment summit will be held to showcase Bangladesh's rising tech industry. The promramme aims to make the foreign investors understand that it is high time they invested in the technology sector of Bangladesh especially in high-end technology products having a large potential.

The US-Bangladesh investment conference on technology will be held on August 2 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco.
