Impressed with Nurul and Afif's maturity: Prince

Ashwell Prince, Bangladesh's batting consultant on the Zimbabwe tour, praised Afif Hossain and Nurul Hasan for playing with maturity during the recently concluded series.

Afif, who made his ODI debut only last year, took the responsibility of playing the finisher's role in the first and third ODI versus Zimbabwe. In the third ODI, Nurul also made an impact with a brisk innings of 45 and steered the side home in the company of Afif.

With Shamim Hossain also showing promise, Bangladesh now have enough options for the finisher's role in white-ball cricket. ''Combinations are very important in white-ball cricket. You have people, who set the tone at the top of the order, and then you have those who are required to take the team home,'' Prince told Cricbuzz on Friday. ''I was really impressed with these two (Nurul and Afif). They were brave, fearless and particularly in the case of Afif, very calm in these situations. They can add a lot to the team in this period of a white ball match,'' he added.

He also commended the 20-year-old Shamim for playing a fearless brand of cricket. The promising cricketer composed a breezy, unbeaten 31 in the final T20I during the Zimbabwe tour and also guided the side to victory. Prince, though, refrained from putting the 'finisher's' tag on the young player. '

'I think he's (Shamim) a fantastic talent. Again, just like Afif (Hossain) and Sohan (Nurul)... brave and fearless. Nobody in the group is putting a tag on him. If it's happening, then maybe it's happening outside the team environment,'' he said.

Prince, who is unavailable for the T20I series versus Australia, also said that they have enough matches lined up against quality opposition teams to find some momentum going into the T20 World Cup.

'I think the fixtures that BCB have lined up between now and the World Cup is a great opportunity for the team to measure ourselves versus some of the best teams in the world. Doing well against Australia, New Zealand and England can really boost the team's morale before the World Cup."

Bangladesh will take on Australia in a five-match T20I rubber starting on August 3, while they are expected to host New Zealand and England after the series against Australia in order to prepare for the World Cup.
