Atiqul for keeping environment clean to contain mosquito menace

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam today called for keeping the environment clean to check the mosquito menace in the city.

"Everyone should clean their own house spontaneously to prevent dengue, chikungunya and other mosquito-borne diseases. By this way, we
can keep the environment clean," he said.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of a 10-day mosquito eradication campaign (combing drive) to prevent Aedes mosquitoes,
dengue and chikungunya on the Taj Mahal Road area in city's Mohammadpur area as chief guest.

He urged the city dwellers and city corporations to work together to prevent dengue, chikungunya and other mosquito-borne diseases.

The 10-day Combing operation (except Friday) has been started in 54 wards of 10 regions of DNCC simultaneously from July 27 to August 7
to destroy breeding grounds of Aedes mosquito larvae, carrier of dengue and chikungunya in the city, he said.

Atiqul added that everyone should behave as responsible citizens to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes by keeping their homes and
surroundings neat and clean.

He advised all to keep their residences and neighbourhoods clean by removing stagnant clean water from different pots, particularly
flower tubes, roof or anything else in their house which is confined for more than three days.

He said that out of more than 700 volunteers from different areas of DNCC, the one who will provide the most informative picture about
the origin of Aedes mosquito will be rewarded.

He said that a mobile phone application named 'Sabar Dhaka App' is available to solve civic problems alongside the emergency hotline
numbers 09602222333 and 09602222334 of DNCC.

Free dengue test has been arranged for the city dwellers in 44 Nagar Shastho Kendro of DNCC, he added.

The chief executive officer of the DNCC Selim Reza, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Jobaidur Rahman, Actor Mosharraf Karim and
local councilor, among others, were present on the occasion.
