16 die of Covid-19, casualties reach 854 in Rangpur

Sixteen more patients died of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today sharply raising the total number of casualties to 854 in Rangpur division.
 
Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases also hastily jumped to 40,744 with diagnosis of 678 positive cases afresh on Sunday in all eight districts of the division.
 
“The overall Covid-19 situation continues deteriorating in the division during the last one and a half months,” said Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui.
 
The 16 new casualties were reported from Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts in the division.
 
“A total of 367 Covid-19 patients, the highest number in a month since June 25 last, died in Rangpur division,” he said.
 
The district-wise break up of the 854 fatalities stands at 180 in Rangpur, 52 in Panchagarh, 64 in Nilphamari, 51 in Lalmonirhat, 46 in Kurigram, 163 in Thakurgaon, 259 in Dinajpur and 39 in Gaibandha districts of the division.
 
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.10 percent, the highest ever fatality rate since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
 
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases hastily reached 40,744 as 678 new patients were diagnosed after testing 2,478 samples of Rangpur division at the positivity rate of 27.36 percent on Sunday.
 
“The district-wise break up of 40,744 infected patients stands at 8,932 in Rangpur, 2,345 in Panchagarh, 3,223 in Nilphamari, 2,097 in Lalmonirhat, 3,074 in Kurigram, 5,726 in Thakurgaon, 11,988 in Dinajpur and 3,459 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
 
Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said a total of 2,04,954 collected samples were tested till Sunday, and of them, 40,744 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.88 percent in the division.
          
Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 30,770 with recovery of 796 more infected patients on Sunday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 75.52 percent.
        
The 30,770 recovered patients include 6,199 of Rangpur, 1,335 of Panchagarh, 2,607 of Nilphamari, 1,577 of Lalmonirhat, 2,119 of Kurigram, 4,084 of Thakurgaon, 10,508 of Dinajpur and 2,341 of Gaibandha districts in the division.
 
Among the 40,744 infected patients, 534 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 24 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 30,770 patients and 854 deaths while 8,972 are remaining in home isolation.
 
“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 7,71,860, and among them, 3,89,652 got the second dose of the jab till Sunday in the division,” Dr Islam added.
 
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed concern over the deteriorating Covid-19 situation in the division.
 
“Common people should strictly abide by the health directives, hygiene rules, maintain physical distance and make the ongoing strict lockdown successful to remain safe and keep others safe,” he added.
