6 die, 451 more test positive for Covid-19 in Chattogram

 A total of 451 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the district during the last 24 hours.

The number of Covid-19 cases in the district is on rise gradually and new records are being rebuilt here every day as the infection rate is 35.73 percent in the last 24 hours.  

“This is the second highest infection rate in a single day till the inception of Covid-19,”  the health officials said here, adding that the number of Covid-19 cases speedily raised to 74,261 as 451 more people were reported positive after testing 1,262 samples on Thursday.

“The infection rate is showing a quick enhancing trend again and the recovery rate is also gradually reducing continuously here in recent weeks,” Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, focal person of Covid-19 and also the civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.

The health experts of Chattogram urged the citydwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks.

Among the newly detected patients, 237 are from Chattogram city and 214 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

With the six death cases reported on Thursday, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 868, Dr Rabbi said.

Among the reported fatalities, 536 were the residents of the port city and the rest 332 were from different upazilas of the district, he added.

Of the total infected people, 56,182 are the residents of the port city and the rest 18,079 are residents of different upazilas of the district, the health official continued.   

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 53,662 in the district with the recovery of 329 more patients on Wednesday,” he said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 72.26.

A total of 4,085 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
