16 die of Covid-19, death toll reaches 755 in Rangpur division

Fourteen more people died of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today raising the number of casualties to 755 in Rangpur division.

 Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases also hastily climbed to 37,521 with diagnosis of 592 positive cases afresh in all eight districts of the division on Sunday.
 
“The Covid-19 situation still continues deteriorating amid rising positivity and causality rates and declining recovery rate in recent weeks in the division,” Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said.
 
“The 16 new casualties were reported from Rangpur, Kurigram, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur district during the last 24 hours,” said Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui.
   
“A total of 303 Covid-19 patients, the highest number in a month since June 18 last, died in Rangpur division,” he said, fearing that the situation may worsen further if the people would not abide by the health directives properly.
 
The district-wise break up of the 755 fatalities stands at 158 in Rangpur, 241 in Dinajpur, 141 in Thakurgaon, 52 in Nilphamari, 39 in Kurigram, 41 in Panchagarh, 37 in Gaibandha and 46 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.
 
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.01 percent in the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
 
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases hastily reached 37,521 as 592 new patients were diagnosed after testing 2,213 samples of Rangpur division at the positivity rate of 26.75 percent on Sunday.  
 
“The district-wise break up of the 37,521 infected patients stands at 8,223 in Rangpur, 2023 in Panchagarh, 2,793 in Nilphamari, 1,971 in Lalmonirhat, 2,650 in Kurigram, 5,136 in Thakurgaon, 11,212 in Dinajpur and 3,123 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
 
Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said a total of 1,92,769 collected samples were tested till Sunday, and of them, 37,521 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.46 percent in the division.
           
Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 27,297 with recovery of 674 more infected patients on Sunday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 72.75 percent.
 
“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients reached 97.55 percent more than four months ago on March 9 last in the division where the same harshly dropped by 24.80 percent during the period to 72.75 percent on Sunday,” Dr Islam said.
        
The 27,297 recovered patients include 5,942 of Rangpur, 1,082 of Panchagarh, 2,200 of Nilphamari, 1,436 of Lalmonirhat, 1,880 of Kurigram, 3,613 of Thakurgaon, 9,181 of Dinajpur and 1,963 of Gaibandha districts in the division.
 
Among the 37,521 infected patients, 638 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 26 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 27,297 patients and 755 deaths while 9,287 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 7,15,912, and among them, 3,89,362 got the second dose of the jab till Sunday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi  Lyzu especially cautioned common people of not neglecting the severity of  the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the division.

“During the pandemic situation, everyone must abide by the health directives, hygiene rules, maintain physical distance and wear masks while remaining outside to remain safe as the positivity rate continues rising in the division,” he added.
