Covid-19 cases cross 22,300 with 258 afresh in Rangpur

The number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases has speedily crossed the 22,300 mark with diagnosis of 258 afresh in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising quickly in recent weeks.  

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases climbed to 22,353 as 258 more patients were reported after testing 746 samples of the division at the infection rate of 34.58 percent on Monday.
   
Earlier, the daily infection rates in the division were 38.94 percent on Sunday, 35.20 percent on Saturday, 29.12 percent on Friday, 33.60 percent on Thursday, 31.68 percent on Wednesday and 30.18 percent on Tuesday last.

“The infection rate continues rising speedily in recent weeks with an increasing number of casualties amid a declining recovery rate across the division,” Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.  
 
“The district-wise break-up of total 22,353 patients now stands at 5,425 in Rangpur, 901 in Panchagarh, 1,687 in Nilphamari, 1,301 in Lalmonirhat, 1,489 in Kurigram, 2,479 in Thakurgaon, 7,176 in Dinajpur and 1,895 in Gaibandha,” he said.
 
Since the beginning, a total of 1,44,979 collected samples were tested till Monday, and of them, 22.353 were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.42 percent.
           
Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 18,915 with recovery of 77 more infected patients on Monday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 84.62 percent.
 
“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients was 97.55 percent more than three months ago on March 9 last in the division where the same sharply dropped by 12.93 percent to 84.62 percent during the period,” Dr Siddiqui said.
        
Among the 18,915 recovered patients, 4,905 of Rangpur, 824 of Panchagarh, 1,567 of Nilphamari, 1,090 of Lalmonirhat, 1,181 of Kurigram, 1,684 of Thakurgaon, 5,880 of Dinajpur and 1,784 of Gaibandha in the division.
 
Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam today told BSS that the Covid-19 related death toll rose to 466 as five more patients died in Rangpur, Panchagrh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur on Monday.
 
The district-wise break-up of the 466 fatalities stands at 107 in Rangpur, 169 in Dinajpur, 62 in Thakurgaon, 38 in Nilphamari, 27 in Kurigram, 21 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 19 in Lalmonirhat.
 
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.08 percent in the division,” Dr Islam said.
 
Among the 22,353 infected patients, 168 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 22 critical patients at ICU beds and seven at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 18,915 patients and 466 deaths while 2,904 are remaining in home isolation.
 
“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 5,98,369 in the division, and among them, 3,88,135 got the second dose of the jab till Monday,” Dr Islam added.
   
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed concern over the increasing Covid-19 infection rate in the division.
 
“Everyone should strictly abide by the health directives to remain safe and keep others safe as the infection rate continues rising seedily in the division,” he added.
