Writ petition seeks digitisation of marriage, divorce registration

UNB, Dhaka
Writ petition seeks digitisation of marriage, divorce registration

A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) on Thursday seeking a directive to digitise marriage and divorce registration to avoid fraudulence.

Human rights organisation ‘Aid For Man Foundation’ and three victims filed the writ petition.

The three others are— Rakib Hasan, the former husband of Bangladesh National Team cricketer Nasir Hossain’s wife Tamima Sultana, Sohag
Hossain, and Kamrul Hasan.

There’s a legal provision for registering marriage and divorce. Numerous incidents of fraudulence are occurring over marriage and divorce as the registrations are not digitised, the petition said.

The writ was filed as no response was received after sending a notice to Nasir Hossain’s wife Tamima Sultana in this regard on February 22.
