Good people make sacrifices for happiness of others

Every sacrifice for others gives a divine pleasure. The people who do not sacrifice for other human being will be forgotten as soon as they die. Some people live eternally even after his death because “we live in deeds, not in years”; longevity of  life is not calculated in the number of years one lives, rather it is measured by the good deeds done by one throughout the life. Human life is a gift of the Almighty (SWT) and comes with an expiry date in time. Death is the ultimate eternal truth.

If we are unable to do any good to others, our life is worthless. A selfish person may live a long life but after his death, nobody remembers him. If at all someone remembers him, it is for his selfish attitudes and vices. Good deeds and virtues should be the basis of our lives.

The meaning of the word ‘sacrifice’ is often associated with the apparent loss of something valuable. Sacrifice has many forms, and it may be in terms of sacrificing of time, labour, wealth, desires, happiness, and even life, for others’ happiness and safety. The true value of sacrifice may not resound as strongly for the one making the sacrifice until fruits of their sacrifice are seen or manifested. In order to achieve what we really want in life, we have to make sacrifices.

Small deeds such as being kind and polite to others, helping the needy, and spending money for the poor children’s education, etc. are some of the noble deeds that one can do daily. The human life is full of selfless actions, gestures and deeds. We all need to strive in order to make the best use of the precious gift of life. We may remember that one crowded hour of a glorious life is worth than a year without a good deed.

Sometimes, when we sacrifice something precious, we do not really lose it.  We are just passing it on to someone else. Without pain, without sacrifice we would have nothing.  However, holiness and suffering are not mutually exclusive.  In other words, holiness does not mean that your life will be freed from suffering.  But, it does mean that your suffering will be transformed. Think about the life of Jesus Himself.  He was perfect.  However, He also suffered to the greatest degree. Our Prophet Muhammad (SM) was the greatest of all human being, but he suffered untold sufferings.  Suffering is not a sign of God’s disfavor; rather, it’s a normal part of radical living within a fallen world.

Our life is all about choices; we get to decide what we’re willing to give up in order gain the things that we cherish most. If we are not willing to sacrifice, we will not get what we deserve. Many people think the world revolves around them, their comfort, their preferences, and their happiness. Sacrifice boosts up one’s self control. It is also a method of repentance. It is sometimes a way of apology as well. Many people seek pleasure in it, and many have to do it forcefully. Sacrifice means differently to different people. The contributor and the receiver may or may not realize the outcome from such an act separately or together. In war, where soldiers fight so hard to win and do above all odds or enough to save the lives of their fellow soldiers is always known by the survivors. Without sacrifice, there is no adequate gain.

A student who works diligently far from materialistic greed is also a way of sacrifice. Sacrifice of comfort, joy and fun. He, sooner or later, will be well paid off. Many people these days have misconceptions of sacrifice; they think it will decrease their wealth, and will trouble their happiness. It is something that helps one grow. It helps remove all the impediments in the journey of a peaceful life. Initially, it may hurt us; but, gradually we start cherishing. Actually, it can only be understood when someone makes a sacrifice.

The people in the world who achieved the most are the ones who sacrificed the most. The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service, and the fruit of service is peace.

Sometimes we need to sacrifice in order to get ahead. One of the greatest causes of failure in our life is the inability to make sacrifices for others. The power of sacrifice is something that can change lives and has huge meaning to the world. So, we need to learn to sacrifice and explore greater meanings to life.

In our life, every relationship, romantic, conjugal or otherwise, requires a certain level of sacrifice to achieve success, and to be happy in life. This doesn’t mean we have to forgo all our needs or abandon our principles, but relationships thrive when we forge mutual dependence in which we build something better together than we would have apart. Every man gives his life for what he believes; every woman gives her life for what she believes. Sometimes people believe in little or nothing, and so they give their lives to little or nothing.

If we want to build trust and earn the respect of others, we have to earn it by our activities. It is proven that no one wants to be friends with or work alongside people who are self-centered and selfish. Good people make sacrifices for others’ happiness.

If we be willing to sacrifice anything for others, we watch something magical happen. Whether it’s for our neighbour, family; people with strong moral character make sacrifices for the greater good. They give freely of themselves without any expectation of personal gain because they are as excited about the success of others as they are about their own.

Parents work and ignore rest, just to ensure that the family is able to strive on. A parent goes through burnout and fatigue that eats away from within just to ensure the well-being of the child. A teacher spends time away from his or her own children to build the development of other children. An entrepreneur gives away profits to a local fundraiser so that, eventually, the community is able to prosper.

There is no replay button in our life. We should view life as one big adventure with different journeys taking place at different times. The journey for knowledge is one that probably stretches throughout life while moving in parallel with other journeys of adulthood, career, the upbringing of family, etc. There is a perfect reward for each and every journey that we go through, even if it is filled with the stress of our daily lives. The Prophet (SM) promised this in the hadith of Hijrah that:

“Those whose journey is to Allah and His Prophet, his journey will be for Allah and His Prophet. And those whose journey is for this world and its content or a woman he wishes to marry, then his journey will be for what he embarked on.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

The routine that we go through and the sacrifices that we make does not necessarily beget the results that we want. With the right intentions, the comforts of paradise will be waiting at the end of our seemingly long, arduous journey.
