Ekushey Padak-winning veteran actor-playwright-director Abul Hayat completes 75 years of his eventful life today.
Celebrating the occasion in a unique style, a book titled ‘Sarthak Janam Tomar He Shilpi Sunipun’ featuring writings of 100 dignitaries of the country has been published. The well-wishers and nearest and dearest ones who have written about Abul Hayat in the book are—Syed Hasan Imam, Ataur Rahman, Aly Zaker, Asaduzzaman Noor, Suborna Mustafa, Sultana Kamal, Abul Hayat’s friend poet-architect Rabiul Hossain, Bipasha Hayat, Tauquir Ahmed, Shahed Sharif Khan, Apurba, Sajal, Tisha and Shakal Ahmed, among others.
Edited by Ziaul Hasan Kislu, Bangla Prokashan has published the book.
About his birthday and contribution of the people who are behind his today’s position, Abul Hayat said, “First of all, I am grateful to my father and mother. The next person--to whom I am really grateful--is my wife who mainly took care of my family and children as I had to busy with my job and acting career time to time. I couldn’t spend enough time with them, what I was supposed to do!”
“I am also grateful to my theatre troupe, Nagorik Natya Sampraday. I express my gratitude to Golam Mustafa, Syed Hasan Imam, Abul Khair and Sirajul Islam whom I always consider my mentors, and following their path of life and acting as my ideal, I move forward”, the actor added.
Seeking blessing from the fans and well-wishers on his birthday, Abul Hayat expressed his desire to share his knowledge with the new generation. He said, “I seek blessing from everyone on my birthday for my good health. If any organisation interested, I want to share the experience and achievement of my acting career with the current generation in an alternative way.”
As a student of class five, Abul Hayat had acted in his first stage play ‘Tipu Sultan’, while he—on behalf of Nagorik Natya Sampraday—performed for the first time in the play ‘Buro Shaliker Ghare Ro’ directed by Ataur Rahman. He-acted first drama on television was ‘Oedipus’ produced by Zia Haider. His first directorial theatrical production was ‘Aguntok’, while ‘Harjit’ was his first television drama as a director.
Abul Hayat received the National Film Award in 2008 for the film ‘Daruchini Dwip’ directed by Tauquir Ahmed, while the actor was awarded with the esteem Ekushey Padak, the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh, in 2015.
