Case filed against Kashmiri classmate

Mohamed Athif, father of Raudha Athif, filed a murder case against one of his daughter's classmates in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM’s) court in Rajshahi yesterday. Seerat Parveen, an Indian citizen from Jammu and Kashmir and a second-year student of the Islami Bank Medical College (IBMC), Rajshahi, is the only accused in the case, the petitioner’s lawyer, Advocate Kamrul Monir, said. Mohamed Athif, along with his younger brother and a family friend, went to the court and filed the case. However, Shafiqul Islam, judge of the CMM's court, directed Shah Makhdum police station to accept the complaint.
The complaint said Seerat Parveen committed the murder because of previous enmity. Also, some mysterious activities of the girl led Raudha’s father to believe that Seerat had committed the crime, Kamrul Monir said.
“The case has been received by the CMM Magistrate and sent to Shah Makdhum police station for treating it as an FIR,” Monir added.
In the complaint, Mohamed Athif said that after hearing the news of Raudha’s death, they reached Rajshahi and went to the morgue of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and found her body. He noticed deep ligature marks on the neck. There were also finger marks.
Later they went to the dormitory of the IBMC at Nawdapara where Raudha used to stay. The college authorities told them that the door of the room was closed from within, and that Raudha had hanged herself with a scarf from the ceiling fan. Curiously, no one could say who brought the body down. Moreover, no one actually saw her hanging.
Mohamed Athif also mentioned in the complaint that Seerat said she brought Raudha's body down from the hanging position, but how she managed to open the door is a mystery. Only Seerat saw Raudha hanging. Raudha told her mother a week before her death that Seerat had mixed sedatives in her juice. Exchange of SMSs on the mobile phone of the deceased reveals that they were inimical.
He further mentioned in the complaint that he came to know that Seerat managed to get the password of Instagram and iPhone of Raudha and deleted her name from the list of friends and followers. This was done after Raudha’s death.
The petitioner believes that his daughter was strangulated by Seerat Parveen, according to the complaint.
He also mentioned that circumstances suggest that Raudha was strangulated while she was sitting on a chair. The attacker did it from behind, or she was strangulated outside the room and the body was brought to her room and kept in a supine position on the bed. However, on that fateful night, the CCTV camera was not working, though the previous day and night it worked, as also the following day. But the medical college authorities told them that they did not know it did not work at night, according to the complaint of Raudha’s father. The unnatural death case of Raudha remained unregistered at the Executive Magistrate's Court in Rajshahi as of Monday.
A Maldivian medical student and model, Raudha was found dead in her dormitory room on March 29.
