Disabilities are not a burden of nation: Nuruzzaman

 Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed today said the disabled persons are not burden of the nation as proper care can turn them into wealth.

“Proper care can transform the people with physical disabilities into resources of the country while most of the people considered them as a burden,” he said.

The minister made this comment while connecting on virtual platform to a programme marking the 30th International Disability Day and 23rd National Disability Day held at National Disability Foundation at city’s Mirpur.

“We must have to successfully implement the programmes which already have been taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for promoting the quality livelihood of the disabled people”, he told the function arranged by the Social Welfare Ministry. “If we provide appropriate training and cooperation to then the disabled persons could be transformed into resources and would be able to contribute to the development of the country,” the minister said.

To build a disabled- friendly country, the minister urged all concerned including these who are interested to work with autistic people, non-government organizations and the development partners to work with the government.

Chaired by Social Welfare Secretary Mahfuza Akhter, the programme also was spoke, among others, by State Minister for Social Welfare M Ashraf Ali Khan Khosru, Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of social welfare Rashed Khan Menon, Director General of the Department of Social Services Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, President of the National Disability Forum Advocate Dilip Kumar Gosh and National Disability Development Foundation’s Managing Director M Anisuzzaman.

“it is necessary to take forward the ongoing development works for the disabilities”, said Menon, adding : “Appropriate implementation of the disability related rules and regulations is very much important.”
