Covid-19 cases climb to 98,058 with 49 afresh in Rajshahi

Forty nine more people tested positive for Covid-19 in six districts of the division on Saturday, taking the caseload to 98,058 since the pandemic began in March last year.

The new daily infection figure is almost equal to the previous day's 50, while on the previous Sunday the infection number was 30, which was the lowest-ever since the second wave of the pandemic hit the country around six months back, Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health, said.

Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 94,011 in the division after another 195 patients were discharged from the hospitals on the same day.

The death toll reached 1,660, including 683 in Bogura, 312 in Rajshahi with 188 in its city, and 172 in Natore, as no fresh case of fatality was reported during the period, Dr Talukder added.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under treatment while 22,630 were kept in isolation units of different dedicated hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 18,935 have been released.

Meanwhile, 76 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 255 others were released from isolation during the same time.

 Of the 49 new cases, 15 were detected in Rajshahi, including 13 in its city, followed by 11 in Pabna, eight in Sirajganj, seven in Natore, six in Bogura and two in Joypurhat districts.

 With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 27,790 in Rajshahi, including 22,389 in city, 5,621 in Chapainawabganj, 6,368 in Naogaon, 8,313 in Natore, 4,587 in Joypurhat, 21,465 in Bogura, 11,293 in Sirajganj and 12,621 in Pabna.

 A total of 1,12,550 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).  Of them, 1,09,787 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.
