Bangladesh bowls first in 1st ODI against West Indies

Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal put West Indies into batting after winning the toss in the first of the three-match ODI series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

The match marked Bangladesh’s return to International cricket following a nine-month Covid-19-induced break. This was Tamim’s first match since he was named as the regular ODI captain of the side in the last match.

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is back in the squad, after ending his ban, imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This will be Shakib’s first match since the 2019 World Cup.

Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud who impressed in Bangladesh’s intra-squad warm-up game and two domestic tournaments—BCB President’s Cup and Bangabandhu T20 Cup—held in Covid-19 pandemic time, made his debut as the 134th ODI player of the country.

West Indies who were without their top 12 players, forced to field six debutants in Joshua de Silva, Jahmar Hamilton, Andre McCarthy, Nkrumah Bonner, Chemar Holder and Kyle Mayers.
