Bangladesh eye gold in SA Games cricket

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selector Habibul Bashar Sumon said they want to triumph the gold medal in cricket from the upcoming edition of the XIII South Asian Games (SA Games) in Nepal.

Cricket included yet another as a discipline in the S A Games after an eight-year-long hiatus. This year the Games will kick-start in between December 1-10 at two different host cities of Kathmandu and Pokhara in Nepal.

“We want to form such a team for the ensuing S A Games so that we could win the gold medal,” Habibul Bashar Sumon said.

“I think it's possible to do well in cricket in the multi-sport event. We want to return home after winning the gold medal from the tournament. We have no problem; even, we have no complain,” Sumon told media while attending a seminar on SA Games organised by Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) at the Dutch Bangla Bank Auditorium of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) yesterday.

Bangladesh will send both men’s and women’s cricket teams for the Games, where a total of eight teams, splitting into two groups, will take part in the 10-day-long meet. Bangladesh women’s team meanwhile started their practice for the Games since last Saturday.

But men’s teams will begin practice in the aftermath of the ongoing ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup-2019, which will be ended on November 23. Bangladesh will dispatch their Emerging Team with somewhat change.

Former captain said they expect to triumph gold medal not only cricket but other disciplines also.

“Bangladesh Olympic Association is always taking care of us,” the BCB selector said.

“Our cricket team will play in the SA Games. We are raring for it. Our boys will try to do well. We’re seeking blessing from the country people so that we can have the last laugh,” he also said.

“Our expectation is to do well not only cricket but other disciplines also,” he concluded.
