50-day training for harijan communities begins

A 50-day long training for the harijan (traditionally considered so-called "Untouchable") communities began at the hall room of Town Social Service office here yesterday amid much enthusiasm to the trainees.

District office under the Department of Social Services (DSS) is organising the training under the programme of Living Standard Improvement of Bede and under-advanced Mass Communities funded by government of Bangladesh.

Rangpur divisional director of DSS Abu Saleh Muhammad Musa Jangee addressed the function as the chief guest with deputy director of DSS Emdadul Haque Pramanik in the chair. Assistant director of the department Kamrul Hasan Sarker and town social services officer Mizanur Rahman Mollick also spoke at the function, among others.

Abu Saleh said the present government has adopted various welfare projects for the under-developed harijan communities to promote their living standard during the age of globalization.

He asked the trainees to complete their trainings on different trades properly and use the knowledge acquired from the training in income generating activities and earn money against the works to change their socio- economic condition. A total of 50 females of the harijan communities are taking part in the training.
