‘Ensure universal health care’

BSS, Dhaka

With people getting better health care services than any time in the past, it is now an imperative to make united efforts for achieving the target of universal health care.

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury stated this on Saturday, applauding the present government for achieving a commendable success in the health sector.

 “Under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the introduction of community clinics across the country is an epoch-making step” she said.

She continued at present, health services are being provided at the grassroots level through 13,000 community clinics across the country.

The Speaker was addressing as chief guest the 5th founding anniversary of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited Thyrocare Bangladesh Limited at Pearl Trade Centre in the city.

Five criminals arrested in Ctg

BSS, Chattogram

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested five criminals, including an accused in the double murder of CRB case, from a rented house of Ranirdighir Par under Enayet Bazar ward in Chattogram on Saturday.

Officer in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Mohammad Mohasin confirmed the arrest of the terrorists from the second floor of Ishaq Villa in the area.

The detainees were Sheikh Farid Ahmed, Mohammad Alauddin, Mohammad Yakub, Shimul Biswas and Sirajul Islam.

Police recovered various arms-making equipment and 110 pieces of yaba tablets and 200 grams of ganja from their possession.

Deputy Police Commissioner (South) SM Mehdi said that Sheikh Farid is an accused in the double murder of CRB case and also wanted in a number of criminal suits.

Islamic book fair draws visitors

BSS, Dhaka

The month long Islamic book fair organised by Islamic Foundation at the South gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the city draws visitors’ every day as people are able to buy Islamic books at a special rate.

The fair was arranged on holy month of Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the month of birth and demise of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

The fair venue is open for all from 10 am to 8 pm every day till 9 December. Religious Affairs Secretary Md Anisur Rahman on November 9 inaugurated the fair, an official release said yesterday.

A total of 61 stalls were set up at the fair compound.

People throng the fair venue to buy Islamic books including Holy Quran, Tafsir, and Hadith.

Training of BRUR employees ends

BSS, Dhaka

A two-month foundation training programme for the employees of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) concluded at its liaison office in the capital on Saturday.

Dr Wazed Research and Training Institute organized the closing ceremony with BRUR Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Major Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah in the chair, said a press release.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) City Editor Madhusudan Mondal attended the programme as the chief guest, it added. Madhusudan Mondal, in his speech, said there is no alternative to this kind of training for the employees as it (training) helps them become more efficient at the workplace.

BRUR Registrar Colonel (Retd) Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal and Member of the Board of Governors of Dr Wazed Research and Training Institute of BRUR and also the course co-coordinator of the training Dr Saber Ahmed Chowdhury were also present on the occasion. Later, certificates were distributed among the employees of BRUR for completing the foundation training programme. A total of 10 employees of BRUR participated in the training programme.
