Writ files against Prothom Alo seeking Tk10cr compensation

A writ petition was filed yesterday with the High Court seeking compensation Tk 10 crore for the family of Nayeemul Abrar, who was electrocuted at Dhaka Residential Model School and College. The HC bench of Justice Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman is likely to hold hearing on the petition on Sunday.

Prothom Alo publisher and editor, Kishor Alo editor, secretary of the Information Ministry, secretary of the Education Ministry and secretary of the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry have been made respondents in the petition. Supreme Court lawyer Faizullah Fayez filed the writ petition with the HC seeking its directive over the matter as the respondents did not response his legal notice in this regard.

The Supreme Court lawyer had on November 3 served a legal notice to the national daily Prothom Alo and its affiliate publication Kishor Alo seeking Tk. 10 crore in compensation for the death of Abrar. Abrar, 15, a student of class-nine of Dhaka Residential Model College, died after getting electrocuted at a programme titled “Ki Ananda”, a function of the Daily Prothom Alo’s magazine for juveniles Kishor Alo, on November 1.
