Jamalpur DC to be made OSD, says state minister

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain yesterday said Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jamalpur Ahmed Kabir will be made an officer on special duty (OSD) over the leaked surveillance camera footage showing him in a compromising position with a female office assistant.

''The process is underway. An order will be issued tomorrow (Sunday) in this regard,'' he told UNB.

The state minister also said departmental action will be taken against Ahmed Kabir after looking into the matter.

Our staff reporter adds: The Cabinet Division has started a primary investigation and will conduct a full inquiry against Jamalpur deputy commissioner (DC) over the offensive video that recently went viral on Facebook, igniting mass criticism.

Cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told the media yesterday that the cabinet is investigating the surveillance camera footage that shows Jamalpur’s deputy commissioner, Ahmed Kabir, in a compromising situation with a female staff.

The secretary said: “We are aware of the matter. We are looking into it. It’ll be resolved within a day or two.”

Additional secretary Gaffar Khan said they had launched a primary investigation, examining the viral video.

“Various agencies are inquiring about the incident. An investigation committee will be formed on Sunday,” Gaffar said.

Earlier, a video, showing Jamalpur DC, Ahmed Kabir, engaged in indecent acts with a female colleague, went viral on Facebook, causing massive outrage from people on social media. The five-minute video footage of a CCTV camera, posted by one Khandaker Sohel Ahmed on his facebook page, went viral on Thursday night. While the video was deleted on Friday morning, it had spread through messenger and other apps.

The Jamalpur DC, however, denied the matter and claimed the video was fake. When asked about the video footage by district journalists on Friday morning, he said he would hold a press conference to make his position clear.

Later, Ahmed Kabir arranged a press briefing in the district circuit house at Friday noon and said: “I am mentally upset over the incident. Give me a little time. We are investigating the matter and the truth will come out.”
