ICT probe body prepares report against 15 Mymensingh Razakars

The investigation agency of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday prepared and released its probe report against 15 alleged Razakars from Mymensingh.

Of the 15, five have been arrested so far. The arrestees are- Md Gias Uddin Khan, 77, Syed Bodiur Rahman alias Bonu Miah, 70, Md Umed Ali, 87, Md Abu Siddique, 75, and Md Abdul Khalek, 62. The probe body did not release identities of the other accused as they were yet to be arrested.

“We have brought seven charges of crimes against humanity including genocide, murder and rape against the accused. They were involved with the killings of 130 people, injuring 20-25 and raping of one woman,” probe body chief coordinator Mohammad Abdul Hannan Khan told newsmen at a press briefing held at its Dhanmandi office.

Khan said his agency launched investigation against the accused on August 6, 2017 and finished it yesterday. The investigation agency released the 390-page report in four volumes.

Charge framing in Dipan murder trial on Sept 5

An anti-terror tribunal on Thursday set September 5 to hold hearing on charge framing against eight members of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in case lodged over murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan in 2016.

Acting Judge Farhana Ferdous of Anti-Terror Tribunal set the date as the regular judge Mojibur Rahman is on leave, court official Ruhul Amin told BSS.

The tribunal on March 19 accepted the charge sheet filed in the case and issued arrest warrants for fugitive accused sacked Army Major Syed Ziaul Haque and Akram Hossain.

Investigation officer and detective branch assistant police commissioner Fazlur Rahman on November 15 filed the charge sheet against eight accused.

The accused are- sacked Army Major Ziaul Haque, Moinul Hasan Shamim, Md Abdus Sabur, Khairul Islam, Md Abu Siddique Sohel, Md Mozammel Hossain Saimon, Md Sheikh Abdullah, and Akram Hossain alias Hasib.

Of the eight, six have been arrested on different occasions and they already gave confessional statements.

Jagriti Prokashoni publisher Dipan was hacked to death in his Aziz Super Market office on November 31, 2016. His wife Rajia Rahman filed the case on that day with Shahbagh Police Station.

Testimony in murder case over Rana Plaza tragedy Nov 20

BSS, Dhaka

A Dhaka court on Wednesday set November 20 to hold hearing of a murder case lodged over Rana Plaza tragedy that caused deaths of around 1,200 people on April 24, 2013.

Yesterday was fixed for start recording testimonies of the witnesses in the case, but Dhaka District and Session Judge Md Helal Uddin reset the date allowing a time plea of the defence.

At least 1,136 people, mostly garment workers, were killed and over 2,500 injured in the building collapse on April 24, 2013. Then sub-inspector of Savar Model Police Station Wali Ashraf filed the case for causing death by negligence and fault in constructing the building.

CID assistant superintendant Bijay Krishna Kar on April 26, 2015, filed charge sheet against 41, including the building owner Sohel Rana. He made 594 people witnesses in the case.

Dhaka District and Session Judge SM Quddus Zaman on July 18, 2016 framed  charges against the accused.
