Missing nurse, madrasa student found dead

Police recovered two bodies including that of a missing nurse yesterday.

In Kushtia, a nurse who went missing in the district town on Saturday afternoon was found dead in a sack in Kumarkhali upazila yesterday morning, says a UNB report.

The victim is Bilkis Akhter, 40, a nurse of Doctor’s Lab and Private Hospital in the district town and wife of fish trader Rabiul Islam of Amlapara in the town.

Officer-in-charge of Kumarkhali Police Station Jahangir Alam said they recovered the body from near a bamboo bridge at Kanchanpur around 8:30am and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.

Victim’s husband Rabiul said Bilkis returned home around 2pm on Saturday from the workplace. She, however, rushed out without informing anyone after she received a phone call around 5pm, he said, adding that since then, she remained missing.

He also said they filed a general diary with Kushtia Model Police Station on Monday in this regard.

Locals said the couple had no child in their 25-year marriage life.

Our Chandpur correspondent adds: Police recovered a headless body of a madrasa student from Piarikhola village in Matlab Dakshin upazila on Monday noon.

The deceased was identified as Sohel Rana, 17, son of Jamir Hossain of the village. He was a student of Nandikhola Madrasa here. Locals found the body on the bank of his uncle’s pond and informed the police.

Swapan Kumar Aich, officer-in-charge of Matlab Dakshin Police Station, said police recovered the body but could not find the head of the body.

However, the body was sent to Chandpur hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed with the police station, the OC added.
