Tigers beat WI
by 8 wickets

With the top order coming all guns blazing, Bangladesh yesterday toyed with West Indies and defeated them by 8 wickets in their first match of a tri-nation ODI series in Dublin’s Castle Avenue. Chasing the target of 262 runs, the Tigers’ top order showcased a solid performance as they chased down the target and called the bells off on 264 losing only two wickets with 30 balls to spare.

Opners Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar have the Tiger side a solid base of 144 runs and Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim took the side home in fashion with an unbeaten 68-run third wicket partnership. Tamim scored 80 while Soumya 73 with a fluent Shakib while Shakib, who looked fluent, made a run-a-ball 61.

Earlier, the Caribbean side compiled a fighting 261 for nine in their stipulated 50 overs largely thanks to Shai Hope’s scintillating 109 in their second match of Walton tri-series. West Indies captain Jason Holder chose to bat first after winning the toss on Clontarf’s green-tinged batting pitch and made a good start through their opening stand of Shai Hopes and Sunil Ambris as they put on 89 for the opening stand.

West Indies slipped from 205 for 2 in the 41st over to finish on 261 for 9 in 50 overs thanks to disciplined bowling by Bangladesh bowlers led by skipper Mashrafe Mortaza. He led the cards with his three for 49 figures. Mashrafe dismissed Chase in the 41st over, before bagging the wickets of Hope and Jason Holder in the 43rd over. Saifuddin and Mustafiz chipped in with two scalps apiece while Shakiba nd Miraz shared two wickets between them.
