Desh Natok to stage ‘Nityapuran’ at Shiplakala today

Theatre troupe Desh Natok will stage its much-acclaimed production titled ‘Nityapuran’ today at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

Adapted by Masum Reza, the play revolves around Ekalavya—a character from the epic Mahabharata. Mamun Chowdhury, the new actor will be playing the character of Ekalavya. Earlier, Dilip Chakraborthy played the role.

The first show of the play was staged at the Baily Road Mohila Samity Mancha in the Dhaka city on January 14, 2001. After the 86th stage in 2005, the staging of Nityapurana was postponed. After 12 years, this play again shows 87th stage on November 10, 2017.

At present, Desh Natok is staging the play with a new look, new cast, new set and costumes. Sushama Sarker plays the role of Draupadi. Earlier, the role of Draupadi was played by Shirin Khan Moni, Naznin Hasan Chumki and Bonna Mirza in different times.

‘Nityapuran’ or ‘The Eternal Meeting’ is a tragic story about an unsuccessful hero. Ekalavya wants to learn archery under the gurukul of Guru Dronacharya, who rejects him. The irony here is that Ekalabya still manages to become an admirable archer.

Tickets will be available in front of the venue before the show.
