Oikyafront announces rally in capital for Tuesday

The Jatiya Oikyafront has announced to hold its public meeting at city’s Suhrawardy Udyan on Nov 6 (Tuesday) to press home their seven point demands including dissolution of parliament and formation of neutral administration to hold the next general elections in a free, fair and impartial manner. The newly formed political alliance, comprising BNP, Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction and Nagorik Oikya, has sought permission from authorities concerned in this regard.

“We have already sent separate letters to both the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the other authorities concerned seeking permission for holding a public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 6,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference yesterday. He said

necessary official formalities have already been completed for the public meeting.

The announcement came just a day after Oikyafront held a dialogue with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Gano Bhaban.

Earlier, the rally was scheduled for yesterday but was rescheduled on request from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said the alliance leaders.

The DMP, on October 30, asked the Oikyafront to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan  anyday after November 4 as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was scheduled to attend a rally there on Sunday, BNP Publicity Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie told reporters.

The Jatiya Oikya Front was launched on October 13 comprising BNP, Jatiya Oikya Prokriya of Dr Kamal Hossain, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction led by ASM Abdur Rob and Nagorik Oikya of Mahmudur Rahman Manna.

The Oikyafront demands to the government also include resignation of the present government, release of all political prisoners including imprisoned BNP chief Khaleda Zia.

The alliance has already held two public meetings in Sylhet on October 24 and in Chattogram on October 27.
