The House With a Clock in Its Walls

The House With a Clock in Its Walls is a spooky but kid-targeted movie adapted from John Bellairs' same-named 1970s children's book.

After losing his parents, 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) is sent to live with his mysterious Uncle Jonathan (Jack Black) in an old Michigan mansion. As Lewis discovers that his new home isn't what it seems, he is thrust into a world of sorcery _ and a battle between the forces of good and evil.

With the help of their friend Mrs Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett), Lewis and Uncle Jonathan must get to the bottom of a sinister secret that lies within the house before magic and chaos are unleashed into the world. The story deals heavily with witchcraft and magic, even the undead, so expect some scary moments and a generally creepy feel.

Black's role promises some comic relief, but his signature rude humour may also make an appearance. This is the first movie from horror maven Eli Roth that's not aimed at mature audiences, so even though it's based on a kids' book, it could be too dark for more sensitive viewers.
