Three get life for keeping drugs

A court in Chapainawabganj yesterday sentenced three persons to life term imprisonment for keeping drugs in Shibganj upazila of the district in 2013.

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each, in default to suffer three months more in jail.

Additional District and Session Judge M Ziaur Rahman gave this verdict in presence of the accused persons.

The convicted persons are Sahedul alias Mohobul, 25, son of M Quddus Ali, M Zentu, 30, son of Moslem Ali and Yasin Ali, 24, son of M Rahman Ali, residents of Shialmara village under Shahbajpur union of Shibganj upazila.

According to the prosecution, a team of the district Narcotics Control Department arrested the trio with 85 bottles of phensidyl from a gate of the Panama Port Link Limited at Sonamasjid Land Port on August 3, 2013 and handed them over to the police of Shibganj Thana.

Later sub-inspector of the department Mahbubur Rahman filed a case against them under Narcotics Control Act.

After investigation, inspector of the same department Lutfar Rahman submitted charge sheet against the trio to the court on October 25 of the same year.

After hearing the witnesses, the court handed down the punishment.
