Nasim warns against ‘war’ within ruling AL

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday said Awami League might face August 15, 1975-like situation if opportunists get their place in the party, reports UNB. "We have to keep in mind that hard times are awaiting for us in the coming days. I request you (Swechchasebak League leaders) not to give scope to the opportunists. They will be with you. But you wouldn't find them if you need to go Rusell Square (for movement)," he said. Nasim, also the presidium member of the ruling Awami League, said this while addressing a discussion organised by Swechchasebak League marking the 66th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum premises in the city.
The minister said " Those who were in the party in the past, they will remain in the party in the future. We needn't expand the party rather only dedicated and examined leaders and workers will be in the party. Otherwise, Awami League might face August 15-like situation." Mentioning that the rival of Awami League became weaken now, the ruling party leader said "When rival becomes weaken, war takes place within. Same thing took place in August 15, 1975. They were no one in the field before August 15. Betrayer like Khandaker Mushtaq got chance to betray as we had been engaged in war within." Awami League organising secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, among others, addressed it, held with Swechchasebak League president Molla Md Abu Kawsar in the chair.
