Foreign minister tells diplomats
DIPLOMATIC CORRESPONDENT

The government has assured the diplomats stationed in Bangladesh of the government’s firm resolve to root out terrorism and militancy from the country. While briefing diplomats on Tuesday (July 5) on the Gulshan attack, Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said the law enforcement agencies were on high alert and security measures had been strengthened, said a foreign ministry press release. The foreign minister said that terrorism was a global challenge and Bangladesh would continue to work closely with other countries, regional organisations and the United Nations to fight this menace.  He expressed hope that the international community would support Bangladesh in fighting common challenges of terrorism and violent extremism. Around 50 diplomats, most of them Ambassadors and High Commissioners of different countries, attended the briefing at the state guest house Padma. In their interventions, the envoys expressed condolences to those killed by the terrorists in the heinous attack.  While acknowledging that most nations today face terrorism, the envoys expressed their views on the measures that could be taken to further strengthen the counter terrorism efforts. Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque and other senior officials of the foreign ministry were present during the briefing.
