Nazrul Mela 2016 to be held May 25

On the occasion of the 117th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, like the previous years, Channel i is organising a fair titled ‘AB Bank Channel i Nazrul Mela’ on May 25 at Channel i premises in the city’s Tejgaon area.
This year, 85 years old veteran Nazrul exponent Ostad Julhas Uddin Ahmed will be bestowed with the lifetime achievement award for his contribution.  
To announce the name of this year’s award recipients and reveal detail information regarding the fair, a press conference was held at Channel i office yesterday. Managing Director of Channel i Faridur Reza Sagor, Executive Vice-President of AB Bank Limited Chowdhury Monjur Liakot  and Nazrul Sangeet singer Ferdous Ara were present among others at the press conference.
Faridur Reza Sagar said, “This time, a lot of changes will be seen in the Nazrul Mela. The audience will get to see arrangements through which proper tribute will be paid to Kazi Nazrul Islam.”  
Monjur Liakot said “The way we have honoured Rabindranath Tagore for his birth anniversary, the same way we have come forward with the tribute for Kazi Nazrul Islam.    
This year’s Nazrul Mela will feature the performance of Nazrul Sangeet by young and veteran singers, children’s dance, reciting Nazrul poems, reading out his essays, and drawing competition.
In addition, about 20 stalls of small and handicraft industries will be installed at the fair premises. Besides, the fair will showcase Nazrul’s books, Nazrul related books, CD, art and films.
The fair will be inaugurated on May 25 at 4:30pm, which will be attended by Nazrul exponents, Nazrul artistes, cultural personalities, litterateurs, editors from different media houses and directors of Channel i, among others.
