Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said strong diplomatic efforts are underway to bring back the fugitive killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders. “Strong efforts are there in progress to bring back the convicted killers who are hiding abroad. The diplomatic efforts will be strengthened further in the coming days,” he said. The minister said this to the journalists after Awami League leaders, led by Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina, placed a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi-32 marking the Jail Killing Day.
Quader said there are difficulties in bringing back the fugitive killers from different countries as there is no provision of death penalty in many countries. The minister, however, said high-level discussions are going on with the heads of state and the government of those countries to find the way(s) that can help bring back the killers.
He said the August 15, 1975 carnage and the assassination of the four national leaders – Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, AHM Quamruzzaman and Captain M Mansur Ali – on November 3 are two shameful incidents in the history of this country.
In continuation of the assassination of Bangabandhu and most of his family members on August 15 in 1975, the four nation leaders who were the front-line organisers of the Liberation War were assassinated on November 3 in the same year to make the Awami League leaderless, he observed. He also called upon party men and people to work together to materialise the dream of Bangabandhu and four national leaders to build a non-communal Bangladesh.
On November 3 in 1975, the four national leaders and Liberation War heroes were brutally murdered inside the Dhaka Central Jail.
When Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was detained by the Pakistani junta in 1971, the four national leaders led the country’s Liberation War.
