Mahmood Alam new DU public relations director

Acting director of public relations office of Dhaka University (DU) Mahmood Alam has been appointed as full-fledged director of the same office.

The university syndicate gave him this appointment at a meeting with vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair, says a press release.  He joined DU public relations office as reporter in 1986.

Since then he served this office in different capacities, including senior reporter, assistant director, deputy director, acting director and Editor of the ‘Dhaka University Barta’. Mahmood started his journalism career at The New Nation in 1980.  He also worked at The Independent and The Bangladesh Observer.   He completed BA (Hons) and MA (English) in 1982 and 1983 respectively from Dhaka University. He also took MSS Degree in Political Science from the same university.

Seminar held at East West University

Department of Sociology, East West University (EWU) organised a seminar

on 'Suicide: Context and Prevention' on its campus in the capital on Thursday.

The speakers of the seminar were Shipra Zaman Joyashree, president, Bright Tomorrow Foundation, Md Zahidul Islam, executive director, Society for Voluntary activities and Dr Anisur Rahman Khan, assistant professor, Department of Sociology, EWU.

The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chief adviser of East West University and former governor of Bangladesh Bank.  Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah, former senior Secretary and Managing Director, PKSF was the special guest of the seminar.

Students, scholars from different universities and NGOs attended the seminar and shared their opinions regarding the prevention of suicide.

CUET admission test held

BSS, Chattogram

Admission test for first year honours course of 2019-20 academic session was held peacefully in Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).

The admission test was held in two sessions– first session from 10am and second session from 3 pm– for 12 departments under four faculties. A total of 10,972 admission seekers appeared in the test against 890 seats. Chairman of the Admission Test Committee Prof Dr Saiful Islam told BSS that admission test was held peacefully and the results will be announced within next one week.
