Sylhet franchisee to sit with BPL GC today

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka

Sylhet franchisee will come to discuss with Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Governing Council at the BCB management office of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur.

The meeting between the two parties will begin at 2:00pm today. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and BPL Governing Council member Jalal Younus confirmed the news to The Independent over phone yesterday.  Earlier, Sylhet franchisee is scheduled to sit for discussion with BPL GC on Wednesday but their chief patron and former Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith suddenly fell sick sickened.

So far it is known that Sylhet franchisee cleared their only fifty percent payment of the last BPL. They couldn’t go in the new BPL agreement if they could not clear their hundred percent payment. So, there was confusion among the owners or even in BPL governing council though the franchisee didn’t inform clearly from the beginning that they will continue their move in BPL.

Even before meeting with BPL GC for the new agreement, they didn’t clear their position to continue in BPL by paying their dues.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon warned BPL franchisees that they will not go in the new agreement with the franchisee or franchisees if they have arrears of the last BPL.

“The agreement will newly be signed with the franchisees after the six-year agreement expired. So far as I know and what I have heard two franchisees had due. Already they paid fifty percent of their due,” said Nazmul Hassan Papon.

“They’ve to pay their due. There is no escape from it. The next four-year contract will not be done if they don’t clear their arrears, no doubt,” Papon told media recently.

“There is no question of signing the new contract if anyone is default for any reason,” he added.

In addition, the upcoming edition of the BPL Twenty20 cricket tournament is slated to kick off on December 6.
