Mamunul’s goal was elected best of the week in AFC Cup

Mamunul Islam’s goal was elected the best goal of the week in the ongoing AFC Cup qualification competition when the-AFC.com announced it yesterday.

Mamunul scored a brilliant goal against Manang Marsghyangdi Club of Nepal on June 19 when the former captain of the Bangladesh national team marked the target just from the penalty-arch giving no chance to opponents’ defenders or the goalkeeper to stop it.

Abahani Limited when leading the game by 4-0 and there were few seconds left to final whistle at this moment Mamunul having the possession of the ball and blasted a left footer just in the top corner of the net.

According to a report from  Kuala Lumpur “The-AFC.com’, the official website of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) – “Kuala Lumpur: The-AFC.com has announced that Abahani Dhaka Limited Mamunul Islam is the winner of this week’s Goal of the Week presented by Allianz for the 2019 AFC Cup after a public vote on the AFC’s official website.”

Mamunul won the feat by online vote leaving behind his contenders Mohammad Al Waked, forward of Al Jaish Club of Syria, Samuel Lalmunipui of Minarva Punjad of India and Dishod Vesiov forward of Tajik team FC Khujand.

But Mohammad Al Waked was the closest contenders of Mamunul when the Bangladesh playmaker got 7997 votes out of 15520 and Syrian booter got 7190, Indian player Samuel obtained 34 and Dilshob Vesiov collected 299 votes.

Mamunul was very happy to know the news that his goal was selected the best goal of week.  

Mamunul in his reaction said, “It is good feeling, when your performances have got recognition. It is really matter of wonderful impression when football fans across the Asia vote for you, as the best.”

“You can score a lot of goals but all the strikes would not have the recognition as the best, so I will try to continue my endeavor to score for my country,” said Mamun.

“Obviously I would like to thanks all football fans in home and abroad, who voted for me. I also like to thanks them who are my critics but voted for me,” said Mamunul, when talking to the Independent yesterday.
