Five-member committee to probe Ctg fire incident

BSS, Chattogram

The district administration on Thursday formed a-five member inquiry committee in connection with fire incident that gutted more than 100 shanties in a slum at city’s Bhera Market, adjacent to Fishery Ghat. The committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Kamal Hossain has been asked to submit its report within three working days.

At least 100 shanties and four shops were gutted in the fire that broke out in Chaktai’s Bhera Market slum on Thursday, said Jasim Uddin, assistant director of the fire service. A total of 14 fire fighting units extinguished the blaze after three hours. However, no casualties have been reported. This is the second reported fire incident in Bhera Market this year after eight people were killed in another fire incident on February 16.
