Anisul inaugurates district judge court at upazila level

Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday inaugurated District and Session Judge Court of Char Fashion Upazila here taking the judicial system to the doorstep of the people of remote area.

It’s the first district and session judge court established by the government at upazila level to facilitate people getting judicial service from their doorsteps, officials said.

Addressing a function at Brojogopal Town Hall on the occasion the minister said no one will be left out from the ongoing development as wheels of economic growth is moving forward under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “The wheels of development are moving on and it will continue and everybody would enjoy the benefit of the development,” he said.

Pointing out the country’s socioeconomic progress, Anisul Huq said Sheikh Hasina has constructed the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, introduced Bangladesh as an atomic energy country and made the country a role model of development.

About the legal procedure against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia the minister said judicial court lent her to jail for five years for eating up orphans’ money. The Appellate Division extended the term to ten years. Here, the government has nothing to do as the law is taking its own course.

Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Youth and Sports Abdullah Al Islam Jakob attended the function as special guest. Jakob thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for establishing the District and Session Judge Court in Char Fashion saying it will lessen the sufferings of the people saving about Taka 24 crore annually.

Senior District and Session Judge Ferdous Ahmed chaired the function that was addressed, among others, by law secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Md. Zahirul Haque, Upazila chairman Zoinal Abedin Akhon, Monpura Upazila chairman Selina Akter and general secretary of district bar Mozammel Haque.

Earlier the law minister inaugurated the district judge court and office of the Charfashion Bar Association.

Woman crushed under train

UNB, Kushtia

A woman was crushed under the wheels of a train at Pashuhat in Mirpur upazila on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Kulsum, 45, wife of Jony Ali of Ishwardi uapzila in Pabna district.

Ruhul Amin, station officer of Mirpur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said Kulsum and her husband Jony worked as cooks at a restaurant in the area.

The accident took place around 7:30am when Khulna-bound ‘Sagardari Express’ train from Ishwardi hit her while she was walking through the rail bridge with her husband.

Kulsum was killed on the spot.

Jony jumped off the rail bridge and saved himself.

Training on investigative reporting begins in Magura

BSS, Magura

A three-day long training on Investigative Reporting was inaugurated at Magura Press Club yesterday.

Deputy Commissioner of Magura Mohammod Ali Akbor inaugurated the training programme this morning. Director General of the Press Institute of Bangladesh Zafar Wazed chaired the function on the occasion.

Director of PIB (administration) Jakir Hossain and the general secretary of Magura press club Shamim Khan took part the programme as special guests.

A total of 40 journalists in the district are participating the training.

Workshop on tea gardening held

BSS, Panchagarh

A daylong workshop on tea gardening was held at Debigonj Upazila yesterday aimed at imparting training to farmers on tea cultivation.

Bangladesh Tea Board, Northern Bangladesh and upazila administration organized the workshop with main objective of expansion of tea gardening at marginal level.

The theme of the workshop was “cha chashey agiye asun, jatiya orthonitite obodan rakhun” (plant tea, play role in economy).
