Groundnut cultivation is gaining popularity among the farmers in the district recently as soil and weather condition are very suitable for groundnut cultivation.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 7,000 hectares of land have been brought under groundnut cultivation in the district this year with the production target of 14,300 tonnes of groundnut.
The farmers of the district have cultivated high yielding groundnut in their lands. Now groundnut is being sold Tk 2,000 to Tk 2400 per mound in local markets.
Ainal Haque, a farmer of Benghari village under Boda upazila said, “Last year, I have cultivated groundnut on two bighas of land spending TK 7,000 and I earned Tk 26,000 by selling groundnut in the local market”.
“I have cultivated groundnut on four bighas of land this year and I am expecting to earn TK 50,000 from groundnut produce.
Another farmer Sunil Kumar said, I have been getting good profit through cultivating groundnut on commercial basis for three years.
