‘Ramu is the best example of religious harmony’

BSS, Cox’s Bazar

State Minister for Religious Affairs Alhaj Advocate Sheikh Md Abdullah yesterday said that the Ramu locality of Cox’s Bazar is the best example of non-communal Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and Muslims have been living together in the Ramu locality of Cox’s Bazar for thousand years, which is a unique example of religious harmony for not only Bangladesh but also for the whole world,” he said.

The state minister was addressing an inter-religions meeting on the premises of Jagatjyoti Shisu Sadan in Ramu.

Speaking as the chief guest, Abdullah said the emperor of the Maurya Dynasty Ashoka established Rangkot Bonasryam Mohabihar here in 268 BCE, while Sri Ram Chandra set up Sri Sri Ram Chandra Kutir in Ramu in 2,800 BCE.

Besides, he said, many religious establishments of Muslims and Christians were built in the Ramu locality hundreds of years ago.

Abdullah said he was really impressed by the religious harmony and attitude of cooperation the people of Ramu have been practicing for long. He assured the local community of providing all-out support to them for development and repair of religious institutions, and maintaining religious harmony in Ramu.
