Flood feared as Surma crosses danger lever

The water level in Surma River suddenly rose due to incessant rainfall for last several days and onrush of water from hilly areas, reports UNB. Sources at Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) said water level of Surma was flowing above the danger level in three points, inundating many low-lying areas. According to the control room of the BWDB, the water level of Surma was flowing 13.39 cm above the danger level in Kanaighat area while 10.44 cm in Jakiganj and 14.83 cm in Amalshid points at 6 pm on Wednesday. Earlier on Tuesday, the water level in Surma was flowing 12.95 cm above the danger level in Kanaighat area while 10.21 cm in Sylhet and 14.33 cm in Amalshid points.
