Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad yesterday said the participation of only two parties – Awami League and his own party JP is enough for properly holding the next general election, and the poll participation or boycott by any other party does not matter. He also claimed that a few top-level leaders of the BNP will join his party before the next general election. Ershad said that it does not matter if the BNP joins the next parliamentary polls, echoing the comment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made a day before. "If someone is willing to join my party, why should I not take them?" Ershad told reporters at the Rangpur Circut House. He also said his party will make the BNP leaders, who would join him, his party's candidates in the next general elections.
Regarding the verdict and imprisonment of BNP chief Khaleda Zia, the Jatiya Party Chairman said sufferings is the fate of any politician. It is the flow of politics. Ershad thanked the BNP for engaging in any destructive activities yet, and termed it a good sign. He also advised the BNP to continue its movement peacefully. Good days are ahead for Jatiya Party as the people of the country want the party to come to power again, claimed Ershad. Earlier, Ershad reached Rangpur on a two-day visit.
