Sixth edition of ‘Bengal Classical Music Festival’ kicks off

The wait came to an end for the music lovers of the country as the sixth edition of the biggest classical music festival in the world titled ‘Bengal Classical Music Festival 2017’ (BCMF) kicked off yesterday at the Abahani Field in Dhanmondi of the capital. Organised by Bengal Foundation, the five-day festival has been dedicated to Professor Dr Anisuzzaman this year. The festival is presented by Square and supported by BRAC Bank.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was present as chief guest in the inaugural ceremony, while Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Abahani Limited Chairman Salman F Rahman and Square Group Director Anjan Chowdhury attended the event as special guests. Bengal Foundation Chairman Abul Khair was also present on the stage during the inaugural ceremony of the festival.  

The festival opened with the performance of internationally-acclaimed violinist from India, Dr L Subramaniam. Then, Astana Symphony Philharmonic Orchestra, considered to be one of the most notable orchestras of Kazakhstan, took the stage and fascinated the audience with their wonderful performance.

Other performers of the night included Sarod by Rajrupa Chowdhury, Khayal by Vidushi Padma Talwalkar, Sitar by Firoz Khan, Khayal by Supriya Das, Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay, Flute by Rakesh Chaurasia and Sitar by Purbayan Chatterjee.
