Girl killed ‘by father’ in Mymensingh

Our Correspondent, Mymensingh

A three-year-old girl was killed allegedly by her father at village Bonati in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh yesterday.

The victim was identified as Shanta, daughter of Nazim Uddin, 55, a farmer of village Bonati.

Quoting local people, Md Yunus Ali, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station said Nazim Uddin, married Shuva Akhter, 27, of adjacent Dakkin Koirati village some five years ago and the couple had a three-year old girl. It was Nazim’s third marriage.

Following serious family feud, Shuva, daughter of Taher Uddin divorced Nazim one year ago and she was married off to another man in Chandpur district, said the OC.

Since then, Nazim had been bringing up the girl but the girl went missing on December 24, the OC added.

Yesterday morning local people sensed a bad smell at a place near straw dumping ground at Dakkin Koirati and found the girl’s body. On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) morgue for autopsy.

Victim’s grandfather Taher Uddin lodged a case with Nandail Police Station yesterday afternoon accusing Nazim.

The killer might have strangled the girl and left the body at adjacent Dakkhin Koirati village to cover up the killing, suspected the OC. Since the incident, Nazim went into hiding, police sources said.
