Freedom fighter Shafiqul Islam was laid to rest with state honour at Jamalpur yesterday.
Former lawmaker of Jamalpur-3 constituency Shafiqul Islam Khoka died of cardiac arrest at United Hospital in the capital on Friday night. He was 70. His first namaj-e-janaja was held at Kacharipara Shahi Mosque premises in the district town and second at Jhaugara High School playground in Melandaha upazila of the district.
Commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Shafiqul Islam is survived by four daughters, one son and host of relatives and well wishers to mourn his death. State Minister for Textile and Jute, Mirza Azam, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Land, Rezaul Karim Hira, former Information Minister, Abul Kalam Azad, MP, Faruk Ahmed Chowdhury and expressed deep shock at the death of the freedom fighter.
