Human chain formed at DU
A human chain was formed on Dhaka University (DU) campus on Wednesday protesting “conspiracies to destabilise the congenial academic atmosphere of the university”.
More than 20 socio-cultural organisations registered under DU Teacher-Student Center (TSC) jointly organised the human chain programme at the altar of the anti-terrorist Raju Sculpture in front of the TSC on the campus at 12 pm.
From the protest programme, the students of the university raised their voice against the “ongoing conspiracies to make the university unstable”. They alleged that some evil cliques are plotting over the recent special senate session and in the name of movement for DUCSU election. Dhaka University Debating Society, Photographic Society, Mime Action, Tourist Society, DUIT, Provatferi, Band Society, Research Society, Poribesh Sangsad, Literature Society, Slogan 71 and Film Society took part in the human chain, among others.

JUSC celebrates 12th anniversary
Jahangirnagar University Science Club (JUSC), the lone science based social organisation celebrated 12th anniversary on the campus yesterday.
At around 10 am, the Director of Wazed Miah Science Research Institute (WMSRI) and the JUSC Chief Adviser Professor Dr Khabir Uddin inaugurated daylong 12th year anniversary events by cutting cakes at Teachers and Student Centre (TSC).
Addressing the event, the chief advisor Professor Khabir Uddin said, JUSC is going forward with its innovative science based activities. It will able to contribute a science based society in future’.  Later, they brought out a rally led by JUSC president Sahriyer Kabir Shohag and Secretary Sabus Sharker Souvo from JU TSC that paraded different streets on campus. The daylong programme was included with tree plantation campaign, science talk, science games and launch.   Mentionable, JUSC started its journey on the campus on August 17, 2005 and now is working to create interest among school, college and university level students.

RU gets new PRO
The Rajshahi University (RU) authorities appointed Prof Dr Povash Kumar Karmoker, Professor of Statistics dept,  as the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) yesterday, said a press release.
Povash Kimar Karmoker attended the office yesterday around 11am after immediate past PRO Prof Moshiur Rahman, Prof of Mass Communication and Journalism dept, resigned from his post on August 13.

Seminar on higher study opportunities in France held
School of Business of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a seminar on “Admission Opportunities and Scholarships for Higher Studies in France” on Wednesday at ULAB auditorium, says a press release.
Bruni Plasse, Directeur of Alliance Française de Dhaka, and Kazi Ashraf Uddin, Professeur de FLE of Alliance Française de Dhaka and Assistant Professor of Dept. of English, Jahangirnagar University, were present as the chief guest and keynote speaker respectively in the seminar.  In his speech, Uddin discussed how students can avail the scholarship opportunities in French universities and what documents are needed to get the visa in order to pursue higher studies in France. He also portrayed the French education system and how it is different from Bangladeshi education system.
The discussion commenced with the welcome speech by Professor H M Jahirul Haque, Vice Chancellor of ULAB. At the end, there was a round of question & answer session. Faculty members, admin members, guests and students took part in the seminar.
